This next Natural Beauty is without a doubt one of the kindest, warmest bloggers I have ever known. Although we have never met, her
constant love and support for the Green Beauty community (and everyone) is unmistakeable and I have always been drawn to her. Her positive, uplifting and meaningful posts not only cater to the Green Beauty lover, but anyone in touch with the importance of the beauty of the soul.

Where are you from?
I was born in New York City and lived there and in Miami Beach, Florida but I am currently living in New Jersey.
Other than writing about non-toxic beauty, what do you do?
My most important role right now is to be a mom to five fabulous kids and a wife to a highly forgiving husband. When I’m not blogging, I’m doing a bit of freelance writing about holistic health topics, green beauty recipes, stream of consciousness, or press releases for indie green beauty companies. Prior to freelancing, I was beauty and fashion editor at an international newspaper (The Epoch Times). And before that I held several positions doing community work training teenage hospital volunteers in one job, and leading programming for senior citizens in another. Every experience has enhanced what I do now.
How long have you been using non-toxic cosmetics?
It has been roughly 11 years and many more years of research on nutrition, diet, and health prior to that.
Why or what led you to going all natural with your beauty products?
Since I started eating more consciously when I was in my early 20s (I’m 43 now), I had been aware of healthier choices for quite a while before changing my beauty products. After I worked in a hospital and started having children, I discovered that the best way to treat an illness is never to get it in the first place. The way my family looks at sickness is as an imbalance in a perfectly healthy system. The key is to find the imbalance in the entire system. Beauty products and exposure to toxins are an aspect of removing possible stressors. Besides that, I started to do research on the potentially harmful chemicals in beauty products long before it became vogue to do that. Choices were limited, but over the years, the industry expanded in a huge way and now it is a lot of fun to shop for products. So now I buy green beauty products because I actually prefer them in quality and content. It’s no longer about wanting to avoid something.
What changes and benefits have you noticed in beauty or health since making the switch?
Since beauty is only one aspect of the changes we made as a family, the benefits are huge. Let’s just say, we don’t run to the doctor very often. When we do need a checkup, we head to a chiropractor first to bring our bodies into alignment. Often that resolves any issues. Like tuning a car after reaching a certain number of miles, when you care for your body as a vessel, you will reap the rewards.
What are your favorite, most recommended brands?
For me, it’s as much about the person behind the label as the quality of the brand itself. I’m fortunate because I get to interface not only with the product, but also with the wonderful person who created it. It does make a difference. As such, some of my favorites include: Sevani, Blissoma, Osmia Organics, One Love Organics (including Elizabeth Dehn for One Love), Cecilia Wong Skin Care, May Lindstrom, Bubble & Bee, W3LL People, Sequoia Beauty (newly rebranding to Laurel), Pollen & Wax, Josh Rosebrook, KENZA International, Caseb Naturals, BFree Organics, Indie Lee, Wild Honey Apothecary, RMS Beauty, Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques, Pangea Organics, and more! Yes, I have tried a whole lot out there which is great because I’m able to recommend different products to suit a variety of skin needs. Just check out “The Savvy Naturalista” on my blog. You’ll see many founders who display their working knowledge of the ingredients they choose. These are really sophisticated formulas and carefully curated ingredients, sourced as naturally and purely as possible.
What are 3 tips you can offer someone looking to go green with their beauty routine?
1. Find friends to connect with who are into greening their routine too. Aside from being a lot of fun, you can learn from each other and swap products and recommendations too.
2. Choose out of love, not fear. If this could be a life motto for me, this would be one of them. Fear of anything is debilitating and can lead to creating an environment that can host the very things anyone would like to avoid. Choose green beauty because the selection is outstanding. Immerse yourself in products that have beautiful, natural fragrances. Relish the time you give to yourself as you soothe them into your skin. Do it because you love your body and yourself and you want to treat yourself to something special.
3. Have fun with it! Sure, take time to do some research on why you’d want to make the switch and then drop the scary stuff! Dip your feet into a balm by Indie Lee or give your whole body a loving massage with a divinely scented body oil by Osmia Organics. You’ll never look back!
Other than natural, non-toxic beauty what interests do you have?
My kids are a huge interest. Parenting with intuition and a heart while not caving into “herd mentality” are ongoing opportunities for growth and learning. Other than this important role, I continually work with many healers and energy workers to clear up my own “stuff.” We’ve all got bags we carry. Some of them are not only from this lifetime. As I learn to heal and set my bags down, I lighten up. That makes me a better parent, teacher, and guide. We can build a world on that kind of healing, as we clear up the things that weigh down a soul. So I start with me because I’m the only one that I can change. That’s how I hope to make the greatest impact. By cleaning up my own act. The rest will flow from there.
