Best oils for Hair, Skin and Nails~ details and benefits! (Non essentials)

When trying to find an oil for use on your hair, skin and nails it can be a bit confusing and overwhelming! There are so many different oils, so which one should you choose? Here is an easy breakdown of some of my favorite oils for hair, skin and nails that will help make your decision a little bit easier.

Apricot Kernel Oil

  • Used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat inflammatory skin disorders
  • Readily absorbed into the skin without a greasy residue
  • Mild and non-irritating, great for sensitive skin, children and babies
  • Great for use as a carrier oil with essential oils
  •  High in Essential Fatty acids, Vitamin A and E

 Avocado Oil

  • Promotes skin healing and better skin quality
  • Great barrier oil and moisturizer, best for very dry skin and hair
  • Rich in Vitamin A, D and E and a high source Essential Fatty Acids
  • Used in the treatment of Psoriasis

 Carrot Oil

  • Antifungal
  • Contains Antioxidant Rich Carotenoids and Vitamin E
  • Naturally Sweet scent
  • Mild sun protector
  • Great anti-aging oil

Jojoba Oil

  • Very close to skin’s natural sebum
  • Antibacterial
  • Great for skin irritations and sunburns
  • Rich in antioxidants
  • Great for all skin types including acne prone

Sweet Almond Oil

  • Non-Greasy and readily absorbed into the skin
  • Rich in Essential Fatty Acids
  • Used in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine to treat problematic skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis
  • Mildly sweet fragrance

Argan Oil

  • Rich in Antioxidants, Essential Fatty Acids, Polyphenols and Carotenoids
  • Helps to relieve skin inflammation and irritations
  • Helps to prevent free radical damage
  • Great for dry, damaged skin and hair

Rosehip Oil

  • Assists in reducing the look of scars
  • Rich in Essential Fatty Acids, Beta-Carotene, Lycopene and Vitamin C
  • Great for wrinkle reduction and overall anti aging
  • Reparative after sun treatment
  • Great for use in anti- redness and Rosacea treatment

 Seabuckthorn Berry Oil

  • High Quantity of Essential Fatty Acids
  • Great for dry, damaged skin
  • Rich in beta-carotene
  • Orange in color

Pomegranate Seed Oil

  • Contains Phytoestrogen to help hormonal balance
  • Contains Conjugated Linolenic Acid (potent antioxidant)
  • Easily Absorbed into the skin
  • Rich in Vitamins and Minerals (B1, B2, C, potassium, and magnesium)
  • Great for all skin types but especially dry and mature

Coconut Oil

  • Source of Essential Fatty Acids and Antioxidants
  • Deeply nourishing oil for depleted skin and hair
  • Great on the scalp for stimulating hair growth and moisturizing dry scalp
  • Antibacterial and Antifungal properties
  • Aids in the healing of acne and eczema

    Really useful post. I didn’t know that carrot oil was antifungal. I tend to stick to jojoba, coconut,sweet almond, and avocado for basics as they are so inexpensive. Calendula great for eczema and camellia oil has such a silky texture x

    My current favorites are la bella figura Barbary fig oil and serum and nyl skincare velvet serum. I’m looking forward to getting osmia organics brightening serum when it’s released.
